Regattas
GCRA hosts two major regattas annually, the Midwest Masters Sprints and the Speakmon Memorial Regatta. Both regattas are held at Griggs Reservoir on the Scioto River in Columbus, Ohio. The location is one of the best rowing venues in the Midwest. Both regattas feature quality competition from the regional area. 

Midwest Masters Sprints (MMS)

Highlights of MMS include:

  • 950-meter sprint race course on Griggs Reservoir
  • Stake boat start
  • Buoyed course
  • 30-35 four-lane flights, with all flights as final
  • Singles, doubles, pairs, quads, fours, and eights events
  • Masters events only: lightweight, novice/recreational events, and allowance for AA participants in boats averaging at least 27 years of age
  • Medals awarded for first, second, and third place finishers

Registration for the Midwest Masters Springs is available through Regatta Central. The regatta is a US Rowing registered regatta.

Speakmon Memorial Regatta

The Speakmon Memorial regatta has become one of the most popular fall rowing events in the Midwest. Highlights of the Speakmon include:

  • 5000-meter head race course on Griggs Reservoir
  • Singles, doubles, pairs, quads, fours, and eights events
  • Collegiate category for NCAA compliance
  • Junior/high school, open, and masters-level events
  • Masters AA category rowers can row in masters events (as long as boats average 27 years of age)
  • Medals awarded for first, second, and third place finishers in all events
  • no parking fee
  • Race timing and results provided by Power House Timing

Registration for the Speakmon Memorial Regatta is available though Regatta Central. The regatta is a US Rowing registered regatta.
